Against weight stigma
and bias in Latvia
Resnums Latvijā (Fat in Latvia) is an initiative for educating and starting discussion about liberation of all bodies. Liberation from bias, discrimination and other barriers for a wholesome life.
Very soon here you will find more information and the results of our research about perceived weight stigma in Latvia. But meanwhile, if you speak Latvian or know somebody who does and has experience with living in a bigger body - have a look or share this research.
*In our communication, we use the word "fat" as a neutral descriptive term without the intention of shaming, offending, or otherwise being discriminatory against bodies of different sizes. More about why we do that - in this article.
What support do we offer?
Please take into consideration that these initiatives are currently available only in Latvian, therefore this section is only informative. Nonetheless, if you would like to hear more about our experience with any of those, contact us directly.
Informing and training about body shape and size discrimination
Very soon this site will be filled with useful information and resources about weight stigma in Latvia. While most of it will not be translated to English, you will be able to access the most important parts - glossary and research results.
Online community
It is a Facebook group where likeminded people who suffer from weight stigma and their allies can share and discuss, ask and gather around topics that are important to them.
Regular peer meetings are held to give space for people living in fat bodies to give and receive support from others with similar experiences. It is a unique possibility to feel heard, seen and validated.

Target groups
Working with young people in remote and hybrid work - employers, managers, and organizational leaders, educational institutions or/and career development centers as well as support networks.
Young professionals in remote and hybrid work environments.
This includes individuals aged between 18 to 35 who are navigating the challenges of balancing professional responsibilities with personal well-being in digitally driven workspaces.

We are the first organization in Latvia that works primarily on tackling body size and shape discrimination, weight stigma and fatphobia. Want to collaborate?
